I grew up in Lemont Illinois. Moved to Savannah Georgia in 1995, where I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design. In 2002 moved to Atlanta and took a job as an Intern Architect. During this time of crazy deadlines, and the passing away of the first dog raised as a pup, I realized that my life was slipping away. I decided to hike south on the Appalachian Trail from Maine in June of 2007, as a way to take my life back. After meeting some great people and having a great experience, the trail life got to be a little to much to handle. I got off the A.T. at the 807 mile marker, about 87 miles from Delaware Water Gap.
Now after having time to reflect I have a burning urge to finish what I started. So 2008 holds another 1300 mile journey. I only hope my experiences are as wonderful as my last hike. Then again I was given a dog last year, how can you top that? So February 23rd I plan to camp out at Springer Mountain with some friends, and come Sunday morning head down the trail for another adventure.
Its all you buddy! Just remember, we friends of yours stand behind you all of the way and someof us are envious/jealous. I’d be there walking with you if I could buddy and you know that! Enjoy it. Make the most of it. Dont forget it.
Well, I believe Mr. Reed would be proud of you!
So, I have not heard about you for awhile and my mom tells me to read some article about you. Of course she butchered your last name but I was able to decipher Soprych from what she was saying. I read the article and I would have to say I am impressed. Good for you man! I had a similar life changing decision last Fall myself. Walked into my boss’s office (about 1/32 of a mile, not a far journey) and gave my notice. I went to school for graphic design and for the past seven years I had been working in IT. The pay was alright but it took the life out of me. I figured no more. I went back into graphic design and recently took on a job in New Lenox for a medical supplies company. Much better. But, I digress …
Anyway, I just wanted to post something for encouragement. Good luck to you on your journey. I figure this is truly greater then a hike. Take care man and I will keep tabs on your blog.
I saw your article in Lemont’s Suburban Life — congrats on the 800 miles you already hiked! That’s pretty amazing. Good luck on this year’s attempt to hike the whole trail.
Dear Todd,
I read your story in a local paper in Elmhurst, Illinois and find your story amazing. How about a book, or did you keep a daily journal? I think what your doing is called soul searching and I wish I had the guts to do it. I would love to hear more about the people you met along the way.
You go guy! I wish you the best of luck in all you do.
Love and Light,
P
