I really love the pictures of the dogs and the winter scene of the mountain. When I read the blog felt bad for Aaron during the run, but in my book he did a great job. My heart was torn when I read about the poor puppy but it all makes sense when you explained at the end.

Wow, what a weekend that was. We got up at something like 4:30 am and started riding around 5:30 or so. I didnt end up finishing until like 8 pm...all I wanted was to eat, drink and be merry. And big thanks to Mike and Mr T here for waiting around for myself to haul ass back to Atlanta.

Next day...well lets just say that it was interesting, Ive never seen Todd in this much pain, granted Ive never been around him when he gets his kidney stones, and I dont know how the pain related to that, but he was pretty miserable. I guess Todd is a lucky guy to have a wife to drop what she is doing to come pick his butt up.

I am glad you are feeling better there buddy. Just dont hurt yourself with the pups.

Hope you did better with the locals at McDonalds than Ditch did last year in Ayer, MA! Sorry that you had an overcast day at Clingman's Dome.

Charlie's Bunion coming up after Newfound Gap - one of the coolest spots on the southern AT!

This is a great section. It is difficult but not overly so. It's quite a long walk over the dam. There is a really cool visitors center at Fontana Dam that the TVA put together. The area was very dry last year. I saw a lot of wildlife here last spring. There was a hawk flying under the tree canopy, and a deer came right up to me within about 20 yards when I took a nap, one of the most amazing things that happened on my hike last year. Welcome to the Smokies!

Sassafrass to Cable Gap was one of the nicer walks in NC/TN, some good views and nothing too crazy in terms of climbing. There were a ton of rhododendrons blooming in June last year. I did the same day you did and then headed into Fontana in the a.m. the next morning. Nice work!

That shelter north of Wayah is brand new, and pretty awesome. It was only a week old when I went past it last spring. Sounds like you had a great view from the stone tower, one of the first views of the Smokies.
